What makes a good title sequence according to Kyle Cooper?

Kyle Cooper, the man who is said to have single handedly revitalise the main title sequence as an art form for his brilliant work for the title sequence of the 1995 thriller 'Seven' in his interview for "Forget the film watch the titles" has said that a good title sequence:

  • Moves seamlessly into the film in a proper way
  • Gets you excited
  • Sets expectation and makes you forget about everything else
  • Puts the audience in the correct mind set

He even credited some title sequences which got the job done right.

To Kill a Mocking Bird: A title sequence liked by Cooper because it was beautifully photographed, the typography forms and round marble seen made a good contrast.  The marbles also give a distorted effect which gives the audience and insight into the tone of the film, and it shows the obsession of the main character.

The Deadzone: the music was great and played out over time to give a mysterious effect, the title sequence itself helped to create a link between the film and typography.
