(Task 10) RESEARCH- What is genre?

Genre means 'type' or 'category'. Genre is a way to categorise different products that share similar features.

In the lesson I learnt I learnt that there are other types of genres.
A sub-genre, a hybrid genre and genre tropes.
A sub-genre is a sub division of a genre of literature, music, film etc.
A hybrid genre is a genre in fiction that blends themes and elements from two or more genres.
Genre tropes are common or overused themes or devices.
We also looked at what codes and conventions are. Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. Conventions are the generally accepted ways of doing something.

An example of a hybrid genre would be the film Scary Movie. It involves both horror and comedy.

Legally Blonde is also an example of a hybrid genre. this is a mix of comedy and romance.

This is and example of a thriller sub-genre.

  • Erotic thriller
  • conspiracy thriller
  • Techno thriller
  • Disaster thriller
  • Legal thriller
  • Mystery thriller
  • Political thriller
  • Religious thriller
  • Psychological thriller
  • Supernatural thriller
  • Medical thriller
  • Crime thriller etc.
