What is an audience?
What is a target audience?
Why does a film have a target audience?
As a class, we then came to the conclusion that an audience is a group of people who consume a media product.
We also decided that the target audience is the people that the media product is aimed at.
Finally, we agreed that films have a target audience so that they know what to include in the film and also making sure that the film is successful.
Later on, we were then assigned to do an audience research activity whereby we pick three films from our chosen genre and note down who we think the target audience is for that genre.
The picture below shows what I put down:
Film: Mission: Impossible -
Gender: Male
Age: 25-35
Location: People who live in cities
Social class: Middle class
Brands they consume: Stella Artois
Other types of entertainment: MOTD, Top Gear, Formula 1
Film: Skyfall -
Gender: Male
Age: 25-50
Location: People who live in cities
Social class: Middle class
Brands they consume: Earl Grey
Other types of entertainment: Top Gear, Crime watch
Film: The tourist -
Gender: Male
Age: 25-35

Our second task was to then research the audience profile who watches the films we identified in the first task. We used https://yougov.co.uk/profiler#/ to help us.
