RESEARCH - codes and conventions of a thriller/spy genre in films

Characters:

Hero - usually a male that is dominant, centre of attention by the audience, with a sexual appearance to the ladies in particular. Usually appears as a tall man, well built , good looking, materialistic, fight skills which help him defeat the bad guys.


Villain - Most likely to be a male who is also good looking or could have special make up done (one side of his face burnt for example) and that would suggest to the audience that he is the villain and is also a rebellious character who has been through lots of battles and fights over the years and usually seeks revenge.



Love interest - Love Usually there is
a love interest where a female and
male characters are attracted to
each other or have a relationship,
after which the villain kidnaps
her which distracts or makes
the hero's job twice as hard.
