(Task 13) RESEARCH- Analysis of Macro, Micro and Order of title credits
MACRO ELEMENTS:
Key plot:
An Alaskan State Trooper partners with a young woman who escaped the clutches of serial killer Robert Hansen to bring the murderer to justice.
MICRO ELEMENTS:
Lighting:
Much of this movie features dark, barely lit scenes, utilizing much low-key light–suggesting the dark nature of the murders.
The dim lighting throughout much of the movie is an analogue to the direction and mood of the film.
Camera uses:
One of the most shocking transitions is when Robert is sitting in his home, listening to a lovely record, and when he crosses the room, the camera pans down suddenly to a woman chained to a post. This cross-cutting transition really cemented the idea that killers can look very human and stable throughout their daily lives, yet be committing atrocities in secrecy.
Sound:
One particularly intense track featured in the soundtrack of this movie is Lorne Balfe’s composition, Flight to River. Balfe put together the whole soundtrack for this movie. In addition, foley sounds were integrated for gunshots, making the thrilling chase scenes more intense and realistic, and the scenes of murder of the victims even more foreboding.
