RESEARCH - Evaluation of the remake

The re-creating of a film opening was a bit of a challenge but also helpful. The challenge was to find the best possible locations and props which would look similar or be exactly as the ones in our chosen film. It was also helpful because we had a chance to film and edit again and put our knowledge of shots into practice. Before we start:

we created the story board

we decided the locations (for example Owen's field, a room in the building and others)

we listed all the different types of shots we needed

we considered the lightning
we chose the props we need

We chose to re-create the opening of "Gone girl" because it included lots of different shots and we had many ideas which would fit and look the same or similar. As a prop we used a bin, which was as similar as possible as the original in the film. Lighting in the scenes was really important to consider as well. For the first scene we used a room which was perfect for the shot as the lightning of the background was low but the face of the character was not and this created contrast. We also considered and followed the 180 degrees rule, which I understand perfectly. The remake required only a bit of acting at the beginning where me and Vicky were in charge of finding the perfect angle and filming. After that we all collaborated and filmed the project as a team. I would say that my filming skills has improved, because of my knowledge of shots and the rule, as well as the knowledge of how to use and adjust the camera. However, there was one difficulty - as we were filming some of our scenes, people kept passing by literally every 2 seconds and that made it a bit frustrating to find the right time to film without anyone walking in front of the camera. That wasn't a big problem but I would say that next time we film, we should find locations which are not so busy or we could kindly ask people if they can go behind the camera.

After this, we had to edit all of our shots.

Something that went better than last time, was the fact that we didn't have a multiple of useless shots, we only kept the ones that we actually need so the editing task was much more easier and faster.
We has a new challenge, which was to use a different Software and include the titles from the original film to our remake. After having a tutorial of that it was much more clearer on how to do that. We tried to make the titles as similar as possible and I'd say we did that successfully. For this activity, my strongest skill was editing. My group made it easier as we collaborated well and decided everything about the editing together. For this task, the only difficulty I'd say was that we found 1 hour and a half not enough time to edit and add the titles as well, but we still managed to finish the remake.
